ABOUT US

It was done.  Our retirement was planned and we were working toward that goal.  Life in a manageable "patio" home, trips to see our grandchildren and playing golf with friends.  All of this changed after a trip to visit family.  Just before Christmas, one of their female alpacas gave birth to a female cria.

During that visit we had our hearts stolen by a little girl with fawn colored fleece and the biggest eyes you have ever seen.  Alan and I had such pleasure as we held her close and whispered in her ears.  We were in "ALPACA LOVE".  Suddenly we were discussing completely changing our retirement plan and jumping into a new lifestyle.  You cannot imagine our daughter's surprise as we discussed our new reitrement plan.  She even stated, "you don't mow your little lawn and you are thinking of buying land and raising animals."  After a few laughs, she started to sing the song from the old TV show "Green Acres".  Little did Alan and I know that the song would become our family theme song.

Quite a change for the "city slickers".  We have learned a lot since we got into the alpaca business.  After 6+  years of raising and breeding alpacas on a part time basis, we dicided to take the big JUMP and retire early.  We found Peaceful Glen Farm in Paint Lick, Kentucky and fell in love with the rolling green hills - we knew that our alpaca family would be very happy here.  After more than 6 years, we love our farm even more than when we brought it.  Life is truely good!

ALPACAS OF PEACEFUL GLEN is owned and operated by Donna and Alan Pointer.  Donna is a registered nurse and was chef/owner of their catering company in Berkeley, California prior to owning alpacas.  Donna has over 23 years of home care and hospice experience that includes staff and financial management, recruiting, quality management and strategic planning.  She was Vice President of Operations for the West for a national health care company when she made a decision to leave the corporate world and go into the personal chef and catering business.  Of course this was before she met her first alpaca!

Alan has 33 years of sales and marketing experience with Standard Register, Inc.  He had product development, national accounts, branch and regioal sales  management responsibilities that included budget, recrutiting and sales staff development along with strategic planning.  Alan retired early to devote his time to the alpaca business.

Alpacas of Peaceful Glen utilizes the sales and marketing experience of the Pointers that is coupled with their love for animals and prior breeding experience as its foundation.
